Enjoy this special episode about graduation! Our MPE class of 2025 will graduate May 9 in Olathe, and we have an amazing group of high school homeschoolers.
This episode explores a popular question: “How do homeschool graduates compare with their peers?”
Well, here are some links to get you started:
National Home Education Research Institute - Fast Facts on Homeschooling (includes data on homeschool graduates and young adults)
The Lion’s Op-ed: Long-term homeschoolers enjoy ‘most favorable levels of mental health,’ study finds
HIGHLIGHTS
78% of peer-reviewed studies on academic achievement show homeschool students perform statistically significantly better than those in institutional schools (Ray, 2017)
“Home-educated students typically score above average on the SAT and ACT tests that colleges consider for admissions” and “are increasingly being actively recruited by colleges.”
“Compared to the other respondent groups, long-term homeschoolers exhibited the highest levels of optimism, gratitude, and life satisfaction. Long-term homeschoolers were also the least likely to “feel helpless dealing with life’s problems” and to report symptoms associated with depression and anxiety.”
What this means for beginning and current homeschoolers:
You’re not alone. You have generations of homeschoolers who have gone on before you!
You have help available. Compared with previous pioneers of homeschooling, we enjoy a number of resources they never had. If you’re experiencing a particular homeschool-related challenge, chances are your local homeschool group or association has at least one another family who has experienced it too!
Start with the end in mind. It may be crazy to think of cap-and-gown when you have preschoolers or kindergarteners running around at your feet, but a homeschool graduation ceremony can be one of the highlights of your child’s educational journey. There is nothing like the warm and welcoming, customized graduation MPE provides as each homeschool family graduates their children:
See pictures of each graduate from birth to present day
Peruse customized bios in the graduation program
Witness the special rose ceremony
And much more!
